Under the general supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), the Accounting Officer (Specialist) performs professional program accounting work of average complexity related to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Disability Insurance (DI) programs, and provides primary support for the UI Workers' Compensation Lien and Child Support Intercept programs.

As part of the Benefit Accounting Section, the incumbent will perform a variety of accounting duties to prepare financial reports; perform accounting adjustments; reconcile bank accounts, benefit payments, and overpayment accounts; Identify, document and make recommendations on system and procedural problems; prepare and update procedures and maintain records and statistical reports; train and mentor staff, and review staff work; assist on special projects for the Section and participate on teams and groups.  The incumbent will utilize databases, spreadsheets, and benefit accounting reports to analyze information obtained from Federal, State, and Departmental sources and take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the UI and DI Trust Funds.

The incumbent needs to be flexible and adaptable to frequent workload changes based on organizational workload priorities.

Statement of Qualifications Requirements

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is Required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.  The SOQ is not a resume or cover letter. Resumes and/or Cover Letters  DO NOT take the place of the SOQ. The SOQ must be titled "Statement of Qualifications", must be typed, not more than two pages in length, and must include a header with the applicant's name, email, and phone number. Each response must be numbered, have its own paragraph and address the following:

1. Describe your accounting education, accounting work experience, and background in financial accounting.
2. Describe the most complex Excel Spreadsheet you have created and explain how it was used for a work process or special project.
3. Describe your training and mentoring experience. How did you adapt to the different trainees/mentees and their learning styles?
