In this pivotal role, you will lead the orientation and continuous professional development of our Sterile Processing Department (SPD) staff throughout the Christiana Care Health System. Your leadership will be instrumental in encouraging a culture of excellence by aligning educational initiatives, quality standards, and best practices across all SPD units. By ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and regulatory guidelines, you will make a significant impact on the safety and efficiency of patient care. Join us in crafting the future of SPD and improving the quality of our services!RESPONSIBILITIES:Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of systemwide orientation, proficiency management, and continuing education programs for SPD staff. Develops department-specific goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulatory bodies (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN, and the Department of Health).Applies principles of adult learning theory to develop and facilitate educational programs, including onboarding, in-service training, and annual proficiency assessments. Tracks and supervises the performance of newly hired employees and fosters professional growth through coaching and mentorship.Conducts audits of staff training records to ensure documentation and compliance with accreditation and certification requirements. Collects and analyzes daily and monthly quality assurance indicators, contributing to departmental reports and presenting findings to leadership and quality committees.Works closely with Sterile Processing Managers, Perioperative Nursing Leadership, Infection Prevention, Clinical Nurse Leaders, and Accreditation teams to support service line goals. Reviews and revises SPD policies and procedures to ensure alignment with evidence-based practices and regulatory standards.Facilitates hands-on training for new instrumentation, equipment, and procedures. Conducts in-service education and maintains individual staff training records. Leads annual and ad hoc assessments to validate proficiencies and ensure safe and effective practice.Supports SPD system data integrity within the CensiTrac Instrument Tracking System, managing user roles, access levels, and documentation of sterilization processes.Establishes and maintains a structured calendar of ongoing educational opportunities, including workshops, self-paced learning modules, professional development materials, and simulation-based training.Develops initiatives to improve workflow, reduce infection risks, control costs, and improve patient safety and service delivery. Aligns SPD practices across the system to ensure consistent sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree required.Master's degree in health administration, public health, health sciences, or related field preferred.Seven years of experience working in Sterile Processing required.Prior leadership and supervisory experience required.Prior training and education experience required.Sterile Processing Technician Certification CBSPD/ CRCST required or Certified Surgical Technologist must complete certification within 6 months.
