Business Title : Sustainability Expert – Packaging Assessment and Strategy

Location : Remote (Must live near Chicago, New York, Seattle, or Boston)

As a Sustainability Expert – Packaging Assessment and Strategy in our US branch, you will support the delivery of high-quality consulting services for our clients, with a focus on leading sustainable packaging initiatives through expert-level guidance in product environmental footprinting (PEF) and life cycle assessment (LCA). You will apply a strategic and systematic approach to assessing and reducing environmental impacts across the product life cycle, particularly for consumer packaged goods (CPG) packaging, using ecodesign principles, circularity strategies, and science-based solutions.

You will evaluate packaging solutions against recognized circularity metrics and frameworks, develop product environmental footprints in accordance with EU and international standards, and ensure alignment with evolving environmental regulations. Collaborating with cross-functional teams—including design, R&D, procurement, and compliance—you will embed sustainability into product development processes, drive data-informed decisions, and contribute to the development of closed-loop and low-impact packaging systems that meet the environmental priorities of the Fashion and Sporting Goods Sector.

Key Responsibilities: Does this describe you and your next role?

• Conduct Life Cycle Assessments and Product Environmental Footprints, especially for packaging materials and products 
• Perform LCAs and Product Environmental Footprints aligned with relevant standards and frameworks including but not limited to ISO 14040/44, PEF 

• Analyze environmental impacts across the full life cycle of products, especially packaging products 

• Develop and communicate strategic insights, derived from assessments to various technical and non-technical audiences 

• Support Ecodesign and Sustainable Packaging Innovation 
• Collaborate with design, R&D, and marketing teams to implement ecodesign principles in packaging. 
• Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact through material selection, design optimization, and process efficiency. 
• Advance Circularity Strategies 
• Assess the circularity of packaging products using established circularity metrics and frameworks (e.g., Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Circular Transition Indicators, ISO standards). 
• Evaluate and recommend solutions for improved recyclability, reuse, biodegradability, or compostability of packaging. 
• Contribute to the development of closed-loop packaging systems and material recovery strategies 
• Identify opportunities to improve material circularity and reduce dependency on virgin resources. 
• Ensure Regulatory Readiness and Compliance 
• Monitor and interpret relevant environmental regulations (e.g., EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Extended Producer Responsibility laws). 
• Ensure packaging solutions meet legal environmental requirements in target markets. 
• Packaging Market Watch 
• Stay updated on emerging tools, materials, and trends in sustainable packaging. 
• Benchmark environmental performance and support continuous improvement initiatives. 
• Collaborate with External Partners 
• Engage with external stakeholders such as suppliers, industry groups, and certification bodies. 
• Participate in standard-setting or pre-competitive initiatives related to footprinting and packaging sustainability. 
• Business Development & Client Engagement
• Contribute to proposal writing, client pitches, and business development activities, particularly in the area of sustainable packaging services. 
• Collaborate with the commercial team to identify and pursue new business opportunities with current and prospective clients. 
• Support scoping of new projects by aligning client sustainability challenges with Quantis’ service offerings. 
• Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and high-quality deliverables. 
• Project Team Leadership 
• Lead and mentor project teams

• Serve as Quantis’ internal subject matter expert, with options to attend and speak at conferences.

Some logistics to consider

• Optimal Start Date: As soon as possible
• Location : Remote (office located in Boston). You'll have the possibility to work collaboratively in the Boston office as needed as well as to regularly meet your colleagues on team retreats. 
• Frequent collaboration with other Quantis branches (Switzerland, France, Germany, and Italy) via web-conferences 
• Ability to travel occasionally as needed (<10%) 
• Applicants must have valid authorization to work in the United States at the time of application. Proof of work authorization will be required as part of the I-9 employment eligibility verification process upon hire.

Salary will be determined based on potential for contribution to the organization’s success. The compensation target for this role ranges from $118,000/year - $125,000/year .
