Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

There is a need to advise low-income residents of available services and resources to improve their social and economic status. The Family Support Specialist is responsible for case management with clients, including follow-up, updating the CAPTAIN system, writing notes, helping clients create resumes, and assisting clients in applying for jobs and social benefits. This role emphasizes the importance of case management, and consistent follow-up with clients with other community resources to ensure comprehensive support. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Case Management: Provide Case Management services to clients, including follow-up and support. Ensure clients receive personalized assistance tailored to their specific needs.
  • Client Support: Assist clients in creating resumes and applying for jobs and social benefits.
  • Service Delivery: Advise low-income residents of available services and resources to improve their social and economic status.
  • Client Advocacy: Advocate for client’s needs and rights within the community and with other service providers.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention services to clients in emergency situations.
  • System Updates: Update and maintain client information in the CAPTAIN system, ensuring all notes and data are accurate and timely.
  • Data Management: Compile information monthly on problem areas identified, referrals made, and referrals with positive outcomes. Ensure all client services are entered into the agency database in a timely manner.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports in a timely manner. Ensure that all client services are entered into CAPTAIN database and that the six (6) National Results Oriented Management Accountability (ROMA) Goals are being met. Ensure client files contain the required current documentation.
  • Community Engagement: Attend a minimum of two (2) neighborhood meetings monthly, provide agency information to neighborhood groups, and participate in National Night Out activities.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the security of confidential information related to personnel matters, residents, and clients.
  • Workshops and Training: Organize and conduct workshops and training sessions for clients on various topics such as job readiness, financial literacy, and accessing social benefits.
  • Community Outreach: Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness of the center’s services and attract new clients. Partnership Building: Establish and maintain partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and government agencies to enhance service delivery and resource availability. Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support the center’s programs and services.
  • Evaluation and Feedback: Collect and analyze feedback from clients and stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services as needed.
  • Budget Management: Assist in managing the budget for center’s programs and services, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Travel: This position requires frequent travel to offsite locations.
  • Performs other related duties as required, requested, or assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Conduct work in a moderate to heavy-paced environment with various personality types.
  • Possess the stamina to remain on feet or be seated for periods if two hours without discomfort or excessive fatigue.
  • Possess positive communication skills in working with staff and clients.
  • Be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • May lift and carry general office supplies and equipment, typically weighing less than 45 pounds.
  • Local travel to meetings and site visits.
  • Environmental demands include an air-conditioned building with fluorescent lighting and moderate exposure to weather conditions. 
  • Some employees may be occupationally exposed to potential infectious airborne/bloodborne pathogens and other materials based on tasks and procedures required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Social Services, or four (4) years experience in a Social Service Delivery System will off-set education requirements. 

At least one (1) year in a social service delivery system, with beneficial experience in case management, client support, or community outreach.

Must have transportation available and a valid Oklahoma drivers license.

Must be willing to work irregular hours.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer systems, databases, and technology tools.
  • Public Speaking: Speak effectively before groups and make presentations.
  • Time Management: Efficiently manage time and prioritize tasks.


DESIRED:

Some study at a graduate level, with coursework in Community Development and organization, sociology, psychology, political science and personnel supervision and management. 

About Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City:

The Community Action Agency of OKC/Oklahoma County was established in 1966, and initially was financed by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, which launched the nation’s “War on Poverty.” Eventually the funding was consolidated into the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). The Community Services division was implemented early on, serving low-income residents of Oklahoma County. Early programs included implementing the Food Stamp program and offering a nutrition program for seniors at meal centers.Today the division has greatly expanded to offer legal assistance; tax assistance; summer youth programs; senior transportation to meal sites, medical appointments, and shopping; rent and mortgage assistance; and other community needs.HEAD STARTThe Agency’s first Head Start center opened its doors to 39 families in 1965. Within two years, nine new centers and 575 children entered Head Start in Oklahoma County. Today we have 26 Head Start classrooms in 15 public schools, and 98 Head Start classrooms total providing services to thousands of children in Oklahoma County.
