Job Description

  • Pay Rate: Rate may vary due to local or non-local contracted rates: $60-65/HR combined Rate of pay . ( Pay packages are a combination of taxable hourly rates, tax free allowances for t ravel, housing, and m eal allowances ) ( Rates are subject to change via client need)

The PACU RN is responsible for the post-operative care and monitoring of patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical or procedural interventions. This role requires high-level clinical judgment, rapid response to critical changes, and a compassionate approach to patient care.  

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Monitor patients post-anesthesia to assess vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, and any complications.  

  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing protocols.  

  • Provide post-operative education to patients and families regarding care, discharge instructions, and follow-up.  

  • Collaborate with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe recovery.  

  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR).  

  • Respond to emergency situations with appropriate interventions such as CPR, medication administration, or advanced airway management.  

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to infection control and safety protocols.  

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain competency in PACU care.  

 

Qualifications:  

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred) 

  • Licensure: Current RN license in Insert State  

 

  • Certifications:  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required  

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required  

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred or required based on patient population  

  • Experience:  

  • Minimum of 1-2 years nursing experience; PACU, ICU, or ER experience preferred  

  • Experience with airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-operative care a plus  

 

Skills & Abilities:  

  • Excellent assessment and critical thinking skills  

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities  

  • Ability to remain calm and act swiftly in high-pressure situations  

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and charting systems  

  • Team-oriented with a commitment to quality patient care  

 

Working Conditions:  

  • Fast-paced hospital or ambulatory surgical setting  

  • Exposure to patients under anesthesia and potentially critical conditions  

  • May require standing for long periods and occasional lifting of patients or equipment  

  • Rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call coverage as needed
