Position: Patient Care Associate Dept: Variety of Deparments - Mercy Hospital SoutheastShift availability: FT Days & Nights and PT Days & Nights - 12 hour shifts per week and rotation of weekends and holidays. You may begin this class with little to no experience in healthcare. This training requires a minimum full-time commitment of five (5) weeks. It combines 75 hours of classroom instruction with 100 hours of hands-on clinical practice. This program satisfies the requirement of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP). Participants must reside within one of the 29 Southeast Missouri counties listed below:Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Crawford, Dent, Douglas, Dunklin, Howell, Iron, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Oregon, Ozark, Pemiscot, Perry, Phelps,Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, Ste. Genevieve, St. Francois, Stoddard, Texas, Washington, Wayne, or Wright Qualifications:A passion for providing holistic patient careA full-time commitment for the five (5) week training periodCompletion of a high school diploma or an approved high school equivalency examProvide documentation of all required immunizationsClearance on relevant background checksMust be able to read, write and speak EnglishParticipants must be considered one of the following types of workers: New Entrant, Dislocated, or Incumbent. See definitions below:New EntrantThe category of "new entrants to the workforce" refers to those who:have never worked before or who have been out of the workforce for a long enough time to make it as if they are entering the workforce for the first time.This may include, but is not limited to:- long-term unemployed- formerly incarcerated individualsAlso eligible, consistent with federal and state wage and employment laws, are:- youth who are enrolled in high school and are currently or will be eligible to be employed before or within six months after the end of the grant lifecycle- youth who have dropped out of school and are seeking their first full-time job.DislocatedTerminated or laid-off (or soon to be); or self-employed and now unemployedDisplaced Homemaker - A person who: Previously provided unpaid services to their family (for example, a stay-at-home mom or dad) Currently is unemployedor underemployed and plans to find a job and begin a career.IncumbentThis term refers to individuals who are:- employed but need employment and training services to secure full-time employment- advancing their careers- retaining their current occupations- paid low and medium wages who would benefit from upgrading their skills to retain employment or advance their careers- currently working part-timePrimary Responsibilities: Performs daily hygiene measures.Performs routine daily activities: ambulation, ensures dietary needs are met (ex. intake documentation, feeding assistance), turns and positions patients, observes for skin breakdown and utilize appropriate supplies to perform daily care.Maintains Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Gathers and records patient data (ex. vital signs) and documents in EMR. Files reports accurately and timely - prepares charts for admission/ discharge/ transfers.May perform point of care testing or specimen collection as determined by unit. (ex. glucose monitoring)Observes changes or unusual occurrences in patient condition and reports them immediately to the appropriate personnel. Communicates with other members of the healthcare team to optimize the care of the patient.Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients and their belongings.Demonstrates appropriate stewardship of resources, charge reconciliation process and document charges accordingly.Utilizes good clinical judgement and effective time management skills.Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and accepts delegation of tasks while operating within scope of practice.Maintain compliance with certifications and eLearning assignmentsPerforms clerical duties as needed (i.e., answers phones, monitors lights).Other duties as assigned.
